Spring Closure for the Mer de Glace Ice Cave in Chamonix

Annual spring closure for a new ice cave to be created

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Glaciers advance year by year, and the Mer de Glace, one of Chamonix's most popular attractions, is no exception.

The progression of the glacier means that each year the old ice cave becomes unusable, and a new one needs to be dug out.

This will take a number of weeks to complete, and so from Sunday night 10th May until the morning of Saturday 30th May, the ice cave will be closed.

You will still be able to visit the Mer de Glace and take in the amazing views, visit the crystal gallery and the glaciorium & eat at the cafe or restaurant, but access to the ice cave will not be possible during this time.
