About the Towns & Villages in Chamonix

Chamonix is the main town of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley. There are several satellite villages that also form part of this resort, the largest of which is Les Houches. Les Houches is the first town you pass by as you enter the Chamonix Valley and is a popular choice for families to stay because of the number of chalets available and the varied ski area it offers. Chamonix is 8km further up the valley from Les Houches and is the main resort with two ski areas, Brevent, and the Aiguille du Midi (off-piste itineraries only). Further on from here is Les Praz (3km) and the Flegere ski area, and beyond Les Praz is Argentiere (6km), home of Les Grands Montets ski area. At the top of the Valley is Le Tour, a tiny hamlet with a ski area that connects to Vallorcine which lies on the other side of the mountain. Take a look at the map to see how it all connects together.
