It can be confusing choosing the right lift pass in Chamonix. The valley is spread out and there are so many stunning areas to explore. Let us help you demystify the process.

Which ticket you buy depends on how long you're here and what you plan to do up there. 

If you’re going up for:

  • 1 day you can choose from a range of day tickets
  • 2 days or more a Mont-Blanc MultiPass is the ticket for you

You can buy some lift passes online. Others, you’ll need to purchase in person at one of the lift pass offices.

To get the best deal, we recommend you buy your passes online at least 3 days in advance.

Day trips

There are various day passes you can buy in Chamonix, depending on how you plan to spend your time in the mountains.

Day passes for mountain biking, hiking and paragliding

With these passes, you can use the lifts on multiple occasions throughout the day, for example to do more than one paragliding flight, or repeated downhill mountain bike runs.

Using the lifts for 2 days or more

For trips of 2 to 21 days, you’ll need a Mont Blanc MultiPass. 

This pass gives you access to an incredible range of terrain in and around the Chamonix valley, including: 

  • Aiguille du Midi (not including Panoramic Mont-Blanc - Pointe Helbronner)
  • Montenvers - Mer de Glace
  • Tramway du Mont-Blanc
  • Skyway (Italy)
  • Brevent-Flegere, Grands Montets, Balme - Le Tour / Vallorcine, Les Houches - Saint Gervais
  • Megève - Rochebrune - Mont d’Arbois area
  • Les Contamines
  • Portes du Mont-Blanc (Jaillet gondola, except 4-season sled)

How much a Mont Blanc MultiPass costs

It depends whether you want to use your pass every day (consecutively), or only on certain days, for example for 4 days over a 2 week period.

Buy your tickets at least 3 days in advance to get money off the prices above. For example, 2 days at €90.30 instead of €95.

You’ll have to pay €3 for a hands-free pass to use at the turnstiles. This is non-refundable, but you can recharge the card on subsequent visits to Chamonix.

When your pass expires

If you buy a non-consecutive Mont Blanc MultiPass, you’ll need to use it by a certain date.

How and where to buy a lift pass

You can buy passes online for:

  • up to 9 consecutive (back-to-back) days
  • 2 or 3 non-consecutive days (to be used in a 7 day period)

For all other passes, you’ll need to go to one of the lift pass offices, or the kiosk at the Montenvers railway cash desk.

If you’re coming for 10 days or more

Make sure you take a passport-sized photo with you when you buy your lift pass.

Who goes for free on Chamonix lifts

Children under the age of 5 can use the lifts for free. You’ll still need a €3 hands-free card to use at the turnstiles, but this can be used on subsequent trips to Chamonix.  

You can buy a hands-free card from any of the lift pass offices in resort.

Family lift passes

If you have children aged 5 to 14, a family lift pass is a great way to save money on your holiday to Chamonix.

With a family lift pass:

  • 2 adults and your first child (5 to 14 years) pay full price
  • your second child’s pass is discounted by up to 70% 
  • up to 3 additional children go free

Staff at the lift pass offices are super helpful. Always ask how else you can save money on your lift pass if you're in Chamonix for a family holiday.
