Chamonix Snow Report: 1st March 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

It is still bitterly cold in the air and although snow was expected during last weekend it remained clear throughout. It did snow - in Northern France!

Check out the photo of a skier enjoying the descent from the top of Grands Montets towards the Argentiere Glacier – you can see the seracs in the bottom of the shot.

The snow is good all the way to Argentiere, tracked out and could do with some more fresh snow but the Lavancher Bowl was still soft snow, if a bit mogully.

All the main ski areas are in good shape, with good coverage. Le Tour is getting a little thin towards the bottoms of the main area.

It is no longer possible to ski back to the town (unless you want rough ride) but nevermind. There are still 16km of 'crunchy' cross-country skiing open.

The PanoChamCam is now fully operational...we have some great images now available on the site webcams index. We have a few more on their way....
