New Travel Card Launched in Mont Blanc Region

In June L'Espace Mont Blanc, which comprises 35 communes in Switzerland, France and Italy is launching a new travel card. The card will allow travellers to complete the celebrated tour of Mont Blanc using public transport. The base of Europe's highest mountain can be negotiated: on foot; by bike; by car and by plane. Some of the super fit runners competing in the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail actually circumnavigate the mountain in less than 40 hours. For those of us who are not in peak physical condition the card will facilitate the use of public transport making it a viable alternative to driving.

The card, Le Pass Mont Blanc, will be valid in the 3 countries at the foot of mountain on routes that take in top Alpine destinations such as: Chamonix; Martigny; the Col du Grand Saint Bernard; Aosta and Courmayeur. The trilateral cooperation to improve transport links is part of a larger drive towards sustainable development in the region.

Although the pass is valid for 72 hours, the minds behind the project have taken into account the fast pace of life in the modern world and have made it possible to complete the tour in a single day. The card will be available to purchase from bus and train stations at a cost of 45euros or 75 Swiss Francs from 1st June.
