Blake Hartley – Further appeal for information

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Those of you that have been browsing Chamonet for the last couple of years will, I'm sure, be familiar with the story of Blake Hartley, the 25 year old soldier who mysteriously disappeared without trace in August 2004. Blake Hartley's mother, Sally Perrin, contacted us recently to ask for our help in making one last appeal for information that might lead to the discovery of Blake's body.

After a number of extensive searches in the river Arve, the length of the Chamonix valley, the search was most recently extended to a section of the river in the vicinity of Bonneville. The search in May 2006 unfortunately again revealed nothing, but an eye witness saw what he believed to be a body in the river at Vougy (situated between Bonneville and Cluses) on August 20th 2004.

We are appealing for anyone that was in the area around this time, to send in photographs of the river and its surroundings (down as far as Geneva, where the Arve joins the Rhone). The Arve was very swollen at the time so the hope is that photographs showing where the river had flooded, might give an indication of where Blake's body could have been swept out into one of the many lakes along the edge.

If you were touring or hiking above the Arve Valley in August 2004 or in particular if you were paragliding, flying or gliding and you may have some aerial shots of the region, please send them to Blake's motheror to us at Chamonetand we will pass them on. It may seem a long shot but his family feel that this might be their last and only hope of ever discovering what happened to their son.
