Fete de la Musique

Stages and sound systems are being set up across Chamonix this afternoon in readiness for tonight's big event – the Fete de la Musique.

Fete de la Musique is an annual event that always takes place on Midsummer's Day and carries on through into the early hours of the following morning.

The festival starts at 5.30pm with two main stages at Place du Mont Blanc (pop/rock/metal) and Place du Triangle de l'Amitié (orchestral ensembles and choral music). Refreshment stands will be serving drinks and snacks.

As the afternoon turns into evening there will be live music on the streets and in most of the bars. Although there will be plenty going on for those who want to stroll around the town centre, it is worth checking out places further afield such as Le Vert down by the Gaillands Lake (live music and good food), Monkey Bar in Chamonix Sud (homemade curry and open mic) or Le Slalom in Argentiere (fancy dress party).

Once the night is well under way there is only really one place to head – Rue des Moulins. Yes, it may be packed and you will get your toes trodden on and your drinks spilt down you, but the atmosphere will make up for all that. Bars starting with Le Privilege and working down through Soulfood, Mix Bar, Bar du Moulin and Bar'd Up will have bands playing outside, DJs playing inside, and people dancing anywhere they can find space.

Music and drinking licences are relaxed so that the party can go on all night, with people spilling out of the bars and dancing in the streets. Chamonet.com would like to advise you not to expect any breaking news stories tomorrow morning as we are anticipating a delicate start to the day...
