featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

After the visit from the FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski) representative to check the snow and safety conditions on the Verte piste in Les Houches on Tuesday 28th and today 29th December, it is now official: on the 8th and 9th January 2005 the men's downhill and slalom World Cup events will take place as planned.

This official go-ahead marks the final stages of the preparations. The cold weather and the recent snow falls have enabled the piste to stay in tip-top condition to welcome the world's best skiers.

The town of Chamonix Mont-Blanc and the village resort of Les Houches are in full swing preparing for this forthcoming major sporting and popular event. The whole of the valley is already in Kandahar mode and impatient to share this fabulous alpine challenge with the 25,000 expected spectators.
