Mont Blanc Avalanche injures ski mountaineers

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Nine skiers from separate groups were injured by an avalanche on Mont Blanc today. Fortunately for the ski groups the slab avalanche, measuring around 350 meters and 30cm in depth, did not cause any fatalities, and resulted only in broken bones and sprains.

The avalanche occurred in the early hours of the morning at 4200m altitude on the Three Mont-Blanc route, a route favoured by many Chamonix Guide Companies.

Mountaineers and skiers should continue to be aware of the winter conditions at altitude. Review weather and avalanche warnings in the area before venturing out.
