Ten days since the opening of both lanes, and 3 months after the fire in the Fréjus tunnel, an average of 1200 and 1600 fewer lorries are now passing through the Mont Blanc on a daily basis. To be more precise, last Wednesday, which was still August a popular time for the French to be on holiday, officials recorded 1965 vehicles, a significant fall from the 4000 or so lorries that were using the Mont Blanc tunnel during June and July.

During the previous week, it was calculated that approximately 8900 lorries entered the French side of the tunnel, compared to the 22,000 that were being recorded in the weeks of the Fréjus tunnel closure. This now represents a drop of around 1250 vehicles a day using the Mont Blanc tunnel.
