Summer is here - bring your woolies!

As June is fast approaching, it looks as if the summer is well and truly with us on this bank holiday weekend. The centre of town is adorned with flowers; the tourist train has been making its rounds for some time now and the snow plough has just charged past the window.....!

Yes, it was a decidedly white Chamonix that greeted us this morning after the torrential showers of yesterday evening turned into snow overnight. On seeing cars from higher up the valley arriving in town with about 6 inches of snow on their roofs, further investigation revealed that the road to Argentiere was pretty white the whole way up, the cross country skiing could almost re-open and the Grands Montets carpark was in deepest winter!

This somewhat unseasonable dump has come a month too late for most people as this is what we had been waiting for at the end of April. With the forecast predicting 30-40cm at 1800m, Mother Nature is revealing a somewhat sick sense of humour now that the lifts are closed and the winter gear is long since packed away. However, it's not completely unheard of to get snow at this time of year; last summer it snowed in town on June 1st and August has also been known to bring snow showers to the higher peaks if the weather turns cold.

If you're heading out this way in the next week or so, don't panic, this cold front should be moving on around mid-week and we hope bringing more t-shirt and flip-flop weather in its wake. However, at Chamonet, we're never ones to miss the opportunity to sink a few turns in fresh snow and so that's just what we did at Grands Montets today. Here's the snap for you. Awesome! ;O)
