The Kandahar is Coming!!

featured in News & reviews Author Chris Richard, Site Editor Updated

Date for your diaries - next weekend, the 3rd and 4th of February, the Kandahar Men's Alpine World Cup takes place in Chamonix, on the Verte piste in Les Houches.

For the first time, a super combined event will take place on the Friday. The downhill (shorter than the traditional downhill) will be followed by one slalom run on the final schuss of the Verte piste. After the first event at Wengen last year, three super combined events are on the 2005/2006 calendar: in Val d'Isere, Wengen and Chamonix. For the FIS this is an important evolution in Alpine skiing, allowing numerous skiers to show their versatility. For Chamonix, it is the recognition of the scale of their investment in the Kandahar events, which has always counted on the combined classing and on both the slalom and downhill events.

The world famous downhill event will take place on Saturday 4th February on the Verte piste in Les Houches and is the final competition before the 20th Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. Next week-end, the whole of the alpine skiing world will be out in force in Chamonix; for some it will be another qualifying round, for others this will be the final full-scale training session, but for everyone it will be the final fixture before the Winter Olympics hit Turin.
