Second section of the Aiguille du Midi closed until further notice

The Planpraz gondola, which connects Chamonix and the Brevent area, has reopened this morning, Monday 27th of August.

It has been a difficult summer for the Compagnie du Mont Blanc due to a few anomalies having been found at the Aiguille du Midi cable car in May and, now, in August. During the last inspection of Chamonix's most famous lift, a similar defect to the one spotted last spring has been detected, forcing them to close the second section of the Midi until further notice. However, the first section that connects Chamonix with Plan de l'Aiguille remains open.

On a happier note, the Planpraz gondola has reopened just in time for the start of the UTMB race, giving athletes and visitors a chance to enjoy the magnificent views of the Mont Blanc massif from the Brévent area.
