Compagnie du Mont Blanc have announced that the Mer de Glace and Montenvers train will be closed for a short period in November for maintenance.

The site, one of Chamonix's biggest attractions, will be closed from 6th to 10th November 2017.

Lots of construction work has already been carried out at the Mer de Glace in the last year or so, with the site undergoing quite a large transformation.

These five days of maintenance may be the last time that the site is closed to the public this year, although talks are underway at the town hall to change the location of the gondola and steps down to the glacier at some point in the future.

At the same time as this closure, Flegere will be opening for the half term holidays, with an extra 5 days of opening to compensate for the Mer de Glace being closed. Flegere will now be open from 21st October to 10th November inclusive.
