What's On in Chamonix July 2018

With summer well and truly upon us, there are whole host of events for the upcoming month in Chamonix. From wild parties, to high adrenaline, high altitude mountain sports, there's everything for all kinds of holiday maker in the valley.

As the weather heats up in the valley, a whole host of outdoor events begin to spring up. From music to cultural festivals, mountaineering workshops to endurance races, there's sure to be something for all ages and abilities this July in Chamonix.

Arc'teryx Alpine Academy 5th - 8th

Chamonix

Taking place July 5th-8th, the 2018 Arc’teryx Alpine Academy in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc will once again bring together more than 500 alpine enthusiasts, mountain guides and professional athletes from all over the world.

Set in the midst of Europe’s mountaineering heritage, the 7th edition of the popular alpine event creates a space where beginners and experts alike can gain alpine knowledge and advance their mountain skills through top-notch clinics and by sharing unforgettable experiences in a unique environment.

Climbing World Cup 11th - 13th

Chamonix

Every year, Chamonix hosts the Climbing World Cup during which the finest speed and technical climbers descend on the resort for three days of astonishing artificial climbing wall action.

Organised by the FFME (French Federation for Climbing and Mountaineering) and the Chamonix Club des Sports, the event is held at the running track near the MBC, where a “Climbing Village” of around 20 exhibitors springs up at the base of the two specially built climbing walls and a big screen. Over the three days, heats and finals are held to find the best male and female climbers in both the speed and sport climbing disciplines.

Bastille weekend celebrations 13th - 15th

Bastille Day is celebrated across the whole of France with a bang. Well, several bangs in fact, as fireworks always feature heavily.The residents of the Chamonix Valley celebrate this national holiday with as much enthusiasm as the rest of the country. Various activities are held across the city on the 14th, in memory of the storming of the Bastille on the same date in 1789.

Fireworks will take place on Friday July 13th as part of the closing ceremony of the 2018 Climbing World Cup in Chamonix at around 22:30. On July 14th, you will have the choice between the top or bottom of the valley with the "Ambiance Village" in Vallorcine, and "Techno Accoustique Fusion" in Les Houches. On July 15th, Argentière will provide it's own evening of celebrations. Events are also generally free of charge.

Cosmo Jazz Festival 21st - 29th

Chamonix

The Cosmo Jazz Festival is an imaginitive mix of live music and different mountain locations. This entirely free festival is the fruit of the imagination of André Manoukian. With live concerts set in some of Chamonix's most amazing locations such as the top of the Aiguille du Midi, Lac Blanc, and Grand Montets.

Back in town it’s time for the Apérojazz, where the streets will resonate to the jazzy sound of brass bands that are let loose on the town. In the evening, the musicians gather together at the Cham Jam sessions until the end of the night.

Trail running events 22nd & 29th

Chamonix

L'Argentrail
On July 22nd the Club des Sports d'Argentière offers a race in which you will discover the villages of Argentière and Lavancher and the pastures of the Pendant, before attacking the first climb to the cottages of the Pendant with its spectacular views of the massif.

Trail du Tour des Fiz
The setting for the race is the Fiz Massif, a spectacular natural reserve located between Chamonix and Samoens, and the course runs through the Mont Blanc massif.
