What's On in Chamonix September 2017

Our pick of the best events in Chamonix this month

Ellie Mahoney | Chamonix Editor | Published: 25th August 2017

It's been a busy summer here in Chamonix with plenty of great events, concerts, festivals and markets and the good news is there's still plenty more to come.

Here is a quick rundown of our favourite things to see and do in the Chamonix Valley this September.

Trail Running

First up is Chamonix's biggest competitive events of the summer, the UTMB. The races (there's actually 5 of them) start on 28th September and continue until 3rd September. Find out the full programme and more information on this year's event in our preview

At the end of September on the 24th, it's the turn of the TAR the Trail des Aiguilles Rouges. The main race is 50km and there's also a secondary, smaller race of 15km; the P'tit Trail des Aiguilles Rouges, which takes place on the same day.

This month it takes place on 16th & 17th September, where the guest is Bernard Magrez, who owns 40 properties and more than 1000 hectares of vineyards around the world. On this visit he'll be introducing some of his Bordeaux wines.

Evergreen Endurance Triathlon

This rather epic set of mountain triathlons starts in Montriond near Morzine and arrives in Chamonix. There are three races of varying difficulty and duration - the '228' sees competitors undertake a 4km swim, a 181km cycle and a 41km run. The '118' is a 2km swim, 95km ride and 21km run and the '58' is a 1.5km swim, 40km ride and 12.5km run. They've been looking for volunteers too, so get involved.

International Cow Battle

Yes, you read that correctly. The Battle des Reines is a traditional rural event where farmers send their top cows to nudge each other around in a field, to stake their claim as top dog (cow). This year's event is International and takes place on 23rd & 24th September. Come along to Bois du Bouchet behind the sports centre to enjoy this unique alpine event.
