Chamonix Apres Ski Report:9th April 2011

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

Well what a busy week it's been. Summer seems to have come early and brought with it BBQ's, birthday parties, car boot sales and the start of the closing parties. There is still skiing to be done as well and with the reduction of lift passes this week, this means there is more money to be spent on a beer in the sun when you've finished.

Last weekend saw a two day car boot sale in Le Frasse near MBC. There were lots of goodies up for grabs and the event had been put together to help raise money for the Al Ishraq in Sri Lanka. The school was badly affected after the 2004 tsunami. The school is on the east coast of Sri Lanka where most NGO's could not help easily because of the civil war which affected most of the north and east of the country.

This week also saw the final of Cham's Got Talent at MBC. This event was also in aid of the Al Ishraq School and they have successfully reached their goal of €1000. On Tuesday lots of people gathered at MBC to watch the quarter finals for the last place in the final which followed on after. There were some difficult decisions to be made, as all performances were outstanding. Who knew Chamonix was full of such talented singers, drummers and body poppers? The scores were very tight in the final but Nile with his singing and guitar managed to scoop the win.

With the summer sun this week there are lots of great places to go and enjoy it, including Les Gaillands and the Savoy slopes, where many people have been enjoying BBQ's and get togethers. We had a friend's birthday this week and we headed to the Savoy slopes for an afternoon of sports games. A game of good old fashioned rounder's and French cricket is definitely a great way to work up the thirst for a beer. As I have mentioned before one of the best sun terraces in the Valley is at the Rhododendrons in Les Praz. This week we headed down for some pizza and afternoon beer and also enjoyed an afternoon of Boules or in French Pétanque! They have a boules pit next to the terrace and balls on hand. It can get very competitive but Mr Ross Cluley stormed to a win. Get your practice in early as they do put on a Pétanque league in the summer and is a great way to spend the evenings.

Last night saw the end of season party down at Le Vert with live performances from Soul of Man and the Freestylers. Tickets were a bargain at €10 a head and included BBQ food. The BBQ was well appreciated with a very tasty burger, sausage and salad. There were great drink offers on as well to help wash it all down. The Freestylers went down a storm and a big congratulations to all the staff at Le Vert who worked really hard especially in the early hours when they had to try and get everyone to leave! They have another party on tonight with DJ Vadim, there will be a pre-BBQ and deals on Mojitos.

So the end of season parties have started to appear and soon it will feel like there is one on somewhere every night. This week we have the upstairs closing party at Le Terrasse with €2 jaeger bombs and DJ Iye 95. We also have the last Winter Sessions coming up with the Winter Sessions Weekender on the 23rd and 24th April. With the early closing of Brevent this year there will probably be a change of plan for the venue, as soon as we hear the plans we will let you know.

So enjoy the sun, BBQ's and beer this week and I'll be back again next week.
