Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 11st February 2011

What a cracking start to the six nations last week! Le Vagabond was jam packed on Friday for the very exciting opening match between Wales and England. There seemed to be rather more Welsh supporters in the bar which made it even more enjoyable on England's victory! It was a great atmosphere and the new HD picture and extremely large screen meant everyone enjoyed the game no matter where you were sat. France also got off to a great start on the Saturday beating Scotland and Ireland just about managed to triumph over Italy but only just! This weekend we have England versus Italy and Scotland versus Wales tomorrow and Ireland versus France on Sunday. Munster Bar will be a good spot for this game!

With the fabulous weather this week I think après has been starting early for everyone. The café at the mid station of Grand Montet has been a great spot for a cheeky beer and snooze in the sun. Another good place to check out is Le Chavanne at Flegere, the little café above the green run. We stopped in for a cheeky beer last Sunday and it has had a little make over this season. There are massive bean bags to chill out on as well as loads of deckchairs and some awesome tunes. The terrace is a little sun spot, so if you want to get started early head over and grab a beer, if there are a few of you the Giraffe is a good investment.

As much as we have all been enjoying the lovely sunshine I think everyone would gladly swop it for just a little bit of the white stuff. Trying to encourage the snow to arrive fellow Chamonet reporter Kieran Sharp has organised Snow Dance 2011 for tonight in the main square in town. Everyone is meeting at 21:00 when a ten minute snow dance will commence. If you play an instrument of sorts take it along and join in the fun. La Terrasse will be providing €2 jaegers out the front to help honour the snow gods.

Love is on the air this week with Valentine's Day on Monday. If you are looking for a good restaurant to take your loved one there are plenty to choose from. Make it a lunch time date and head to Le Cremerie at Grand Montet. I had my parents out visiting this week and went for lunch. It's a great little place tucked away at the side of the home run. It's a little bit sketchy at the moment but you can ski in and ski out from the home run. If you enjoy cheese you'll love the menu of gratins, croutes and fondues. They do a great Skier Menu for €12 which includes salad, a croute or gratin and dessert of the day – bargain!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all, enjoy the rugby and hopefully after the snow gods have been appeased tonight we will have the return of winter!

Don't forget to keep an eye on the What's On Calendar for a full list of events over the winter season. You can also find full Bar and Restaurant listings in the Dining and Going Out section of the site.
