Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 19th March 2009

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

The Boss des Bosses took place on Wednesday and set the scene for a week of partying and general mayhem in Chamonix. The competition started at 11.00 am and so did the celebrations, which continued into the very wee hours of the morning.

Amazingly, this was the 20th year the Boss des Bosses has taken place and it was as crazy and competitive as ever, with teams from across the Alps pulling out all the stops to wow the crowds with their mogul madness, impressive freestyle stunts and the most retro outfits ever to grace the slopes of Chamonix!

The final was between the age old rivals of Chamonix and Zermatt and a race that Grandes Montets has seen many years over and with exactly the same outcome, Zermatt taking gold!

After the day's event was over, the crowds flowed (or tumbled) off the slopes and into La Terrasse, which had arranged a special one off performance by Juggernaut of Rock on the balcony to mark the occasion - much to the delight of an ecstatic crowd below.

This was the most action the square has seen since New Year's Eve, helped by the fact the sun had decided to show its face in full force throughout the day, leaving plenty of sore victims in its wake!

As the sun set on another eventful day, we went in search of a dance floor and some good tunes. We found all this just up the road in Cantina Club, where we tried our hardest (failing miserably on my part) to welcome the sun back for another day!

The week's action was not only confined to Wednesday. The lead up has been just as busy with Le Vert kicking off the weeks proceedings with Finger Lickin' Records playing on Saturday night.

Another manic night of beer consumption and costume wearing came in the form of St Patrick's Day on Tuesday and of course Chamonix's Irish bar Munsters pulled out all the stops in celebration of the day. The Monkey was also packed with merry leprechauns and lucky charms as was any other self respecting bar in town!

Now the days are getting longer and the sun is getting warmer, things are hotting up in town. Here are some up and coming events which should not be missed:

Friday 20th March :
Le Vert hosts 'Chase The Ace' - the legendary Australian duo CocaPenny are playing and there will be a chance to win a pair of skis or even a trip to Morocco!

Monday 23rd March :
Monkey Bar hosts Professor Nohair and the Wiglifters - yes it's a weird name, but if you like a bit of live jazz, a friendly crowd and a cheap pint, then head down to Monkey this Monday to see them play.

Friday nights :
No Escape - if you're wondering where all the girls have disappeared to on a Friday night, then it might be worth popping your head into No Escape where they are offering free champagne to ladies! Gentlemen take note!
