Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 24th February 2011

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

The school holidays are in full swing and town is back to its busiest. It was good to wake up this morning and see more snow has arrived and should keep arriving over the weekend. So what has been happening this week.

Last Friday I headed down to Hotel Le Vert for a night of funky tunes, beers and giveaways. It wasn’t one of their late night sessions, but was pretty busy and a good few people went away happy with some free tee-shirts and hoodies.

Still in the mood for a party it was onward to Le Tof in Cham sud. I don’t think I have mentioned much about the late night haunts of Chamonix, so here is a quick run down. When it hits 2am and the bars are shutting up but you’re not ready to head home. You have three main choices, Le Tof, Le Garage and Choucas.

Le Tof is Chamonix’s gay friendly night club and is situated in Cham sud. With a dance pole in the middle of the dance floor and some cheesy tunes it’s a good to place to head for a boogie. Le Garage also situated in Cham sud is Chamonix’s largest nightclub, the international DJ plays a mix of House, electro and R&B and there is also a lingerie show every Tuesday night! Lastly there is Choucas, on the main high street opposite The Pub, known just as well for its live après as it is for grooving till the wee hours.

This weekend there is some action to be had on the piste as well as off with the return of the North Face Ski Challenge. This is the largest European freeride and freestyle competition for young free skiers between 12 and 20 years old. Since 2006 the competition has been held to find young talents in Europe and offer them the opportunity to find sponsors and be able to turn pro. So head up to Grand Montet on the 26th and 27th to catch some of the action.

I hope you have dug out those sequins and afro wigs and the disco outfits are ready. Tomorrow night is the winter sessions fancy dress Disco Bloodbath. Enjoy yourselves but make sure you save a little energy for Saturday for the France versus England game in the Six Nations, kick off at 18:00pm.

Have a great weekend and lets hope the snow keeps falling!
