Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 25th March 2011

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

Summer is well and truly here with the beautiful weather we have been having the past few days. It's now all about skiing in the morning and après all afternoon.

Last weekend saw some excellent nights at the Podium for the finish of the Black Weekend. Saturday night was especially busy and the Black Crows team had done a wicked job of decorating the Podium. There was lots of white walls with images being projected on in time to the music, this mixed with some awesome tunes made for a great atmosphere. The Black Weekend was definitely a huge success.

Next week at the Podium we have the return of the Winter Sessions Crew and in the light of recent devastating events in Japan they have decided to postpone the gig with Ben Westbeech and host a charity fundraiser to raise money for the Japan Red Cross in the only way they know how, to have a massive party. There will be a fundraiser tombola with donated prizes and all proceeds will go to aid the Japan Red Cross. Also 5€ from every ticket sold will be donated as well.

The musical magic will come from a few of the Winter Sessions residents including first sets this season from Winter Sessions founder and DnB slinger Uncle Joe who smashed Cantina at the full moon party last week, travelling crate digger Sick Note, and newbie NZ funk queen R.IA.

So get your tickets early and party for a good cause, doors open at 10.30pm till 4am with a free drink for every ticket holder before 12 midnight. Tickets are €10 each and are available in advance from Y Bar, Le Podium, Jekyll and the tourist office.

Also keep an eye out for more information on the great line up they have planned for the Winter Sessions Weekender that starts on the 22nd April, we have Norman Kennedy and the return of Norman Jay to mention but a few.

I had a friend out visiting this week so we did a little tour round all the bars to show her the sights around town. The Pub's been busy this week; a few cheeky Branca Mentas went down a treat and we had some great cocktails in Mix bar and enjoyed some good DJ skills. The Vagabond has also been great this week, now the sun's out the terrace there is amazing, in my opinion the best in town, as it holds the sun the longest. Combine that with jugs of rose for €10 and it's a perfect place for an après ski wind down.

We also took a trip to Les Aiglons, the Best Western hotel in town to make use of the Spa. They offer some really good deals. The lunch and spa is €22 and includes a tasty two course lunch and then after you get use of the spa facilities for the afternoon. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. They also do a snack and spa for after skiing that starts at 16:00pm. It is €16 and the snack varies day to day but yesterday they had fondue and tartiflette on offer.

So enjoy the sunshine this weekend, rumour has it the weather is set to change on Sunday, maybe more snow?! We'll believe it when we see it! Get rested and ready for the end of season parties to begin.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the What's On Calendar for a full list of events over the winter season. You can also find full Bar and Restaurant listings in the Dining and Going Out section of the site.
