Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 26th March 2009

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Spring was definitely in the air this week in Chamonix as the snow began to melt and the end of another awesome winter season came into sight. It's about this time of year that the sun spots in town become all the more appealing as we shed our scarf's and start to work on those all too important goggle marks! My bar of the week and one of the best sun traps town is found in Le Praz at the Hotel Rhododendron , a stone's throw away from Flegere lift station and perfectly located for some cheeky après drinks. The Rhododendron has a mixture of live bands playing most night including some of my favourites such as Honey Fungus, Coco Penny and Charlie Bob Marley.

The Rhododendron had some stiff competition however as there are lots of spots in town worth a visit on a sunny day.

La Terrasse - The name says it all really and if you're looking for the best people watching spot in town and a stunning view this is the place to go.

Chambre Neuf – Great inside, great outside! Enjoy the best of both words with an early drink on the terrace just in time to join the crowds heading inside to hear Melvil play every night .

Elevation – A great spot for a bite to eat or a relaxed coffee, this bar is a guaranteed pleaser for the sun worshippers out there.

South Bar – Think sun, think blonde haired Scandi babes, think South Bar

It seems that all this sun has been going to the heads of the Monkey bar staff who decided to throw a jelly wrestling competition to raise money for charity last Friday night. Fuelled by a plentiful supply of jelly shots willing contestants donned the fancy dress and battled out to be crowned winner by the judges who were of course a Zebra and a Tiger. Just a normal day in Cham Sud!

Just when we thought we'd seen the end of the snow and it was all jelly wrestling from now on, the heavens opened on Monday night gracing us with yet another epic powder day! The great thing about Chamonix is not only the massive amount of terrain it has to offer, but also its close proximity to tonnes of other excellent resorts. Courmayeur is a mere half an hour's drive away into Italy and well worth a visit, even if just for the hot chocolates! One place to check out in town is Bar Roma famed for its friendly staff, fancy decor and an amazing spread of fresh and delicious foods all for free when you buy a drink!
