Chamonix Snow Report: 17th March 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Today has been YET another stunner. Bright clear skies, good snow on the pistes in the mornings turning slushy and warmer in the afternoons. In the mornings the pistes are firm and then as things warm up we are experiencing the first 'slush-puppy' conditions of the season.

TOP TIP: follow the sun around, starting with east facing slopes then working around to west then north. North is like concrete first thing in the morning and east is slush by mid-day. Brevent and Flegere do well first thing.

Lunch in the sun is de riguer, and making a massive change from the chills of only just recent.

It is no longer possible to ski back to the town (unless you want a rough ride) but nevermind. There are still 16km of 'crunchy' cross-country skiing open.

The PanoChamCam is now fully operational...we have some great images now available on the site webcams index. We have a few more on their way....

We'll keep you updated - sign up for the Dump Alert! We only let you know about significant falls and you can unsubscribe at any time.
