Chamonix Snow Report: 3rd February 2014

Tracey & Nick give us the snow-down

featured in Snow report Author Robin Deering, Chamonix Editor Updated

With a fresh dump of snow in Chamonix over the weekend, up to 30 cm of fresh fell in total, we sent guest reporters Tracey and Nick out to see how good conditions in the valley really are...

Les Houches was a complete white-out on Sunday however the huge amount of of powder on and off piste made it a lot more enjoyable,  Les Houches has the benefit of tree-line skiing so when but visibility is bad it's always a better bet.
Down at resort level the snow was quite wet and heavy, fortunately by the time we made it down we were happy to call it a day and get some apres action at the Kitsch Inn.

Up at Grands Montets today was a huge improvement. The pistes have got a good hard base with a nice layer of soft fluffy snow on top. However venturing off-piste from the top of GM, the snowpack felt a little unstable - at one point we set off a small slide which is solid reminder to be properly equipped before setting off.

There have been a few lifts closed at times due a particularly gusty wind but that same wind has helped clear the skies and we were doused is sunshine all afternoon. The home run is in really good condition all the way down.

Many thanks to our guest snow reporters Tracey and Nick who have been enjoying the mountain with their host Ellie. If you want to be a guest snow reporter just drop as line and we'll be in touch.

Last snowfall on the 2nd February with 10cm in town and 30cm in Argentiere.
Avalanche risk is still at 3/5 above 2000 metres.
