Chamonix Snow Report: 9th February 2011

featured in Snow report Author Kieran Sharp, Updated

Still the same great lovely sunny weather out here in Chamonix, so expect to get a really nice big dirty bearded goggle tan if you are out this week! As it gets warmer some of the snow is starting to disappear, but up high snow making is still going on and the lift company are doing their very best to keep on top of the situation.

There are plans underfoot to manifest and ensure the arrival of a large amount of snow in the very near and foreseeable future. On Friday at precisely 2100hrs there will be a 10 minute snow dance in the square by the Terrace bar and post office. There will be live acoustic music and party to precede and follow in the Terrace bar, all who want snow should attend, those who fail to do so for no good reason do not deserve those first powder turns when it does arrive, so if you are in town, spread the word, come down and dance your pants off for 10 minutes followed by a respectful one minute silence!

With the weather being slightly warmer the pistes on the south facing hills at Flegere and Brevent have been in a nice soft slushy condition in the morning followed by a more soup like texture in the afternoon. Grand Montets has been pretty firm but good in the morning with the snow making and good pisting from the night before, followed by a softer slushy condition in the afternoon. So choose your hill and your preferred riding condition, make sure you have plenty of soft wax on your base and skis or board you don't mind hitting a few rocks on! Should the unfortunate gouge appear on the bottom of your plank or planks then get down to Zero G for some of the best servicing available in the valley!

If you aren't around this Friday you can still help by having a 10 minute snow dance wherever you might be followed by a 1 minute silence commencing precisely at 2100hrs on Friday 11th February 2011. It's going to be a great party for this short period and should bring snow with all the energy created by those who get involved, followed by some great parties in the local bars! So if you aren't in town I would definitely start thinking about booking a holiday out here for after Friday as there will be snow, and you will miss out if you don't come!
