Chamonix Snow Report: 16th October 2015

The first snow of the year has arrived

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

It was raining pretty much all afternoon yesterday in Chamonix, and by the end of the afternoon that rain was turning to sleet, and the forecasts seemed to be right, we were going to get the first snow of the season.

This morning we've woken up to lots of low cloud, but peeking out from below it are lots of snow-dusted trees and roof tops, and there are lots of cars driving through the streets with a good few centimetres of snow on their bonnets.

So how much snow has actually fallen?

  • Aiguille du Midi - 20cm
  • Grands Montets - 4cm at the top station

The other stations aren't reporting any data yet but here's a look at the Brevent mid station webcam, which looks like there's a good few cm on the ground and it's the same picture at Le Tour and the mid station at Grands Montets.

The forecasts aren't really predicting much more snow in the coming week, but you can keep an eye on what they say in our weather forecasts.

If you're heading up the mountain this weekend, the Brevent lift is open for the half term (Toussaint) holidays from tomorrow 17th October to the 6th November. You might want to put some gaiters on!
